Apple Watch Pop-Up Shop Also Planned for London's Sel...

Apple is planning to open a dedicated pop-up shop for the Apple Watch at high-end department store Selfridges in London, according to sources. The shop will likely be located near the entrance of the iconic Wonder Room, a 19,000-square-foot shopping hall that houses a wide selection of luxury jewelry and watch brands alongside a concept store and mezzanine wine bar.

Wonder-Room-Selfridges.jpgWonder Room at Selfridges in London houses fine jewelry and watches
A section of Selfridges located near the Wonder Room was boarded up earlier this month to allow for construction of the expected Apple Watch pop-up shop, sources say. The store-within-a-store concept will display various Apple Watch models and provide customers with a personalized shopping experience, potentially including One to One service for those interested in learning more about the wrist-worn device.

Apple is recruiting retail employees from nearby Apple Stores in London to fill Specialist vacancies at an upcoming Central London location, which is likely to be this Selfridges boutique. The pop-up shop is expected to be readied in time for the Apple Watch launch in April and will likely join Galeries Lafayette as one of multiple standalone Apple Watch stores that Apple plans to open throughout Europe.

Selfridges has the second-largest retail space in the United Kingdom behind competing high-end department store Harrods. The store offers a myriad of designer jewelry and accessories, such as watches, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, pendants and rings. With the Apple Watch positioned at least partially as a fashion item, the department store offers an ideal setting for the wrist-worn device to be displayed.mf.gif

Apple Likely Building Apple Watch Demo Area at Yerba Buen...

A new image has surfaced that shows construction of an outdoor extension at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, as reported by 9to5Mac. The tented space will likely serve as an Apple Watch demo area at the upcoming "Spring Forward" media event on March 9th, where Apple is widely expected to provide further details about the Apple Watch's features, pricing and release date.

Yerba-Buena-Apple.jpg
According to the tipster that submitted the photos, there are security guards wearing "Apple Security" shirts monitoring the construction site, all but confirming that the external addition belongs to Apple. The company previously built a similar structure outside of the Flint Center as a demo area for the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch, so an exterior demo area would not be unprecedented.

Apple sent out invites for its "Spring Forward" media event earlier this week, and will also be providing a live stream of the event on its website for Mac, iPhone and iPad. The media event will take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco on March 9th at 10:00 AM Pacific and should be focused on the Apple Watch ahead of the wrist-worn device's launch in April.mf.gif

Apple constructing outdoor building next to Yerba Buena,...

yerba-beuna.jpg?w=704&h=381

We have received images of a white building under construction behind the Yerba Buena Center of the Arts, the venue for Apple’s ‘Spring Forward’ event on March 9th. The tipster said that security guards are patrolling the scene, wearing ‘Apple Security’ shirts, confirming the connection between the building and Apple.

Apple built a similar external structure for the Apple Watch’s original unveiling in September, which acted as a demo hall for the products (iPhone 6 and Apple Watch) that Apple had announced at the event prior. Given the similarities, it is likely that this is the purpose of this new building as well.

It is worth noting, however, that in the past Apple has simply used side rooms inside Yerba Buena for its demo areas. Unlike the Flint Center, previous events show that there is space for indoor demos if Apple wanted to use it.

More images after the break …

The Apple event on March 9th is Apple’s opportunity to explain more in-depth about the Apple Watch features and model offerings. Recently, Tim Cook has teased that the product will not only be able to replace car fobs, but also is somewhat water-resistant — as the CEO uses his own Watch ‘in the shower‘. Firm details on pricing and availability are also expected to be announced. There is also a chance that the company will talk about other software and hardware as well.

Apple has already announced it will be live streaming the event. Find full coverage of all the announcements on 9to5Mac.

Update: Another picture of the construction has been uploaded to Instagram:

iOS 8 How-to: Set up and Use Find My iPhone, iPad and iPo...

screenshot-2015-01-27-19-08-23.png?w=655

Find My iPhone was first released in June 2010 initially for the iPhone. Now, Find My iPhone allows you to track the location of your device, be it an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, in case it gets lost or stolen. This is a great benefit because when you locate your device using Find My iPhone, the device makes noise until it is found and will show you were it is located using Apple Maps. Recently, the police used Find My iPhone to track and save a woman’s life. However, Find My iPhone did require the device to be turned on and connected to the internet in order for it to work completely. New with iOS 8, you have the option to automatically send the location of the device to Apple when the battery is critically low. In this how-to I will discuss how to set up Find My iPhone, and how to use Find My iPhone.

img.php?z=1288305&k=0d0633b70e3c2bda246a

Before we start discussing Find My iPhone, let’s have a brief discussion on the importance of having and knowing your Apple ID. Your Apple ID is used for your iCloud account. You will need to know what account you are using in order to use Find My iPhone.  There are times when the Apple ID that is used for iCloud is being shared with your family members and some people will turn off everything to avoid getting family members data. You are able to change the iCloud account on the device so you each have your own account, and then you can properly set up Family Sharing, which would allow your family to have individual accounts with Apple and still share all of your purchases together. Also with the Apple ID that is being used for iCloud, you want it to be a valid, active email address because Apple will send you an email notifying you about the status of your device; be it was found, or put in lost mode. If the email address being used for iCloud, is not a valid, active email address you are able to change the email address associated with your Apple ID.

screenshot-2015-01-31-14-21-50.png?w=655

iOS 8 notification email about device

Now we are ready to discuss how to set up Find My iPhone.

To set up Find My iPhone first open up the Settings app and scroll down until you see iCloud. Tap on it and scroll down until you see Find My iPhone.

2015-01-30-16-36-59.png?w=73&h=1302015-01-30-16-40-34.png?w=73&h=130

Then you are going to tap on Find My iPhone and make sure that Send Last Location is turned on, because by default it is turned off. When Send Last Location is turned on, the device will automatically send the location of it to Apple when the battery is critically low. This location will be available for 24 hours for you to see.

2015-01-30-16-44-57.png?w=394&h=700

Now that we have Find My iPhone set up, let’s discuss how to use it in case the device gets lost or stolen. There are two different methods to go about doing this. The first method involves using the computer, and the second method involves using the Find My iPhone app on a different iOS device.

On the computer, open up your web browser and go to icloud.com and login with your Apple ID.

screenshot-2015-02-22-10-17-57.png?w=655

Then click on the Find My iPhone icon. It will then prompt you to reenter your Apple ID password.

screenshot-2015-02-22-10-19-52.png?w=655

Up at the top in center in green click on All Devices. It will list all of the devices you have associated with Find My iPhone.

all-devices.png?w=155&h=93screenshot-2015-02-22-10-24-03.png?w=155

From the list, select on the device name that you are looking for. This will then zoom in on the map and show you were the device is located. This will then give you three different options: Play Sound, Lost Mode, Erase Device. These options will also appear when using the Find My iPhone app and I will discuss what they mean after discussing how to use the Find My iPhone app.

On the iOS device, open up the Find My iPhone app and sign in with your Apple ID and password.

2015-02-22-10-25-55.png?w=525&h=700

Tap on the device you want to find. You can do so by tapping on the icon of the device on the map, or by pressing on the green arrow in the upper left hand corner to see a list of all of the devices.

2015-02-26-21-42-54.png?w=155&h=1162015-02-26-21-47-07.png?w=155&h=116

Down at the the bottom you have a couple of different options. Tapping on the green car in the lower left hand corner will open up the Maps app and give you driving or walking directions to your device. If you prefer to use a different GPS app, you have the option to do so.

2015-02-22-10-44-51.png?w=73&h=1302015-02-22-10-45-00.png?w=73&h=130

Pressing on Actions in green down at the bottom in center gives you options to Play Sound, Lost Mode or Erase Device.

2015-02-22-11-22-08.png?w=525&h=700

Pressing on the green i in the circle in the lower right hand corner, will allow you to change the style of the map: Standard, Hybrid and Satellite.

2015-02-22-11-25-33.png?w=98&h=1302015-02-22-11-25-59.png?w=98&h=1302015-02-22-11-26-11.png?w=98&h=130

Play Sound will play an audible sound, even if the device is on vibrate or silent. This sound will keep going until the device is found. This is a great option if you loose your device in your house. Lost Mode allows you to track where the device has been over the last 24 hours. It allows you to lock your device and set up a message to display a contact number. This would prevent the person who finds your device to access any of the data on your device as well as allowing the person who finds it to call you. Erase will allow you to remotely delete everything on the device. This is a good idea in case you think you will never be able to access that device again and highly doubt it will get back to you, or you don’t want someone else accessing your data.

Now that you have Find My iPhone set up, I hope you find it useful to be able to track the location of your devices in case it gets lost or stolen. Let us know if you have used Find My iPhone and were successful in finding your devices.

Apple today released an updated aerial shot of the construction progress of its Campus 2 project in Cupertino, California. The new shot was made available on the City of Cupertino’s official websiteand continues to show the steady progress including more groundwork made on the future headquarters.

img.php?z=1288305&k=0d0633b70e3c2bda246a

The latest image shows a different angle of the scene and some signs of progress on the ground, and the general project schedule remains unchanged. Building construction is expected to run through the end of next year while earthwork on the site is expected to wrap up in the next few months.

Earlier this week, Apple CEO Tim Cook shared that 2,400 glass panels for the future headquarters were being produced at Augsburg during his visit. Apple also provided an authorized ‘sneak peak’ of the construction site earlier this month.

You can follow the Apple Campus 2 project timeline with our comprehensive overview of the progress here including lots of aerial videos filmed by flying drones.

Tim Cook says terrorism should not scare people into givi...

screen-shot-2015-02-13-at-1-18-04-pm.png
In the second half of The Telegraph’s interview with Tim Cook, Apple CEO Tim Cook has reaffirmed his position on privacy. Cook says that whilst currently consumers do not understand the ramifications of sharing their data with third-parties, “one day they will”.
Moreover, Cook openly objects to governments that say data sharing is required to combat crime and terrorism. There has been pressure for tech companies to offer back-doors into encryption mechanisms, but a clear implication of this interview is that Apple will strongly oppose this view. Cook describes privacy as a ‘basic human right’.
http://rss.buysellad...008&c=614955361

Cook disagrees fundamentally. “None of us should accept that the government or a company or anybody should have access to all of our private information. This is a basic human right. We all have a right to privacy. We shouldn’t give it up. We shouldn’t give in to scare-mongering or to people who fundamentally don’t understand the details.”

Although Cook believes that terrorism is bad (“these people shouldn’t exist”), he rejects the idea that privacy policies needs to be weakened to support counter-terrorism efforts. Cook says that removing layers of encryption will mean that the public’s private information will “inevitably be taken” and that terrorist effort will encrypt their own communications regardless of company oversight.

“Terrorists will encrypt. They know what to do. If we don’t encrypt, the people we affect [by cracking down on privacy] are the good people. They are the 99.999pc of people who are good.”

The interview concludes with Cook reiterating what Apple’s stance is in this area. “You are not our product”, in regard to health data, purchase history (referring to Apple Pay) and even ‘relatively minor pieces of information’ which can be built up into a ‘trove of data’, according to Cook.

“We don’t make money selling your information to somebody else. We don’t think you want that. We don’t want to do that. It’s not in our values system to do that. Could we make a lot of money doing that? Of course. But life isn’t about money, life is about doing the right thing. This has been a core value of our company for a long time.”

You can read the full interview on The Telegraph’s website. The first half of the newspaper’s interview was posted yesterday and covered some new details about the Apple Watch.

Chinese Android phone takes copying Apple to another level

Forget Comcast, ZTE takes the cake with the most blatant Apple-ripoff-of-the-month award. The Chinese company’s latest handset, the Blade S6, is clearly… inspired by the iPhone.
