Want to be? Come hang out at CocoaLove!

In my years in this field, I've had the opportunity to attend and speak at a variety of fantastic user-based conferences. Ùll, Çingleton, and Yosemite captured the essence of our community in a variety of events and non-code-based talks. I heard similar adoration about CocoaLove last year, and it's one of the reasons I'm so pleased to be speaking at this year's conference in Philadelphia, taking place Oct 9-11.

Not only will it be my first time in Philly, but I'm excited to have the chance to hang out and chat with a panoply of wonderful speakers, including Jaimee Newberry, Allen Pike, Jean MacDonald, Dave Wiskus, SiNae Pitts, and more. Some of these folks I've had the pleasure of chatting with many times before; others are new to me and I can't wait to hear what they have to say.

I'm going to be chatting about Twitter and the culture of "Give Me the Answer in 140 Characters or Less," and if you want to come see my talk—or any of the other phenomenal speakers on display—we have an iMore-specific discount code you can use to pick up a CocoaLove ticket!

Just enter in "imore" under the discount code for 10 percent off the three-day conference, which includes Friday evening talks, Saturday's day and after-party, and a Sunday Cheesesteak Lunch and Mini-Golf park excursion.

Looking forward to hopefully seeing some of you in October!

Sprint takes aim at AT&T, offers DirecTV customers a...

Sprinthas announced its latest bid to pull customers away from one of its biggest rivals, and it's a doozy. To "celebrate" the AT&T and DirecTV merger, Sprint is offering DirecTV customers a full year of service for free. The plan that Sprint is offering up for free includes 12 months of unlimited talk, text, and 2GB of data per line on up to five lines. While this obviously isn't for the data-hungry, you can't beat free.

Additionally, Sprint says it will offer to buy out switching customers' current contracts and pay up to $300 per working phone. To take advantage of the deal — which starts on Friday, August 28, and runs through September 30 — those interested must show verification of their DirecTV account by either signing into their account while at a Sprint store or showing a copy of a recent bill.

Finally, there are a couple of catches with the deal. Customers are still responsible for paying for their devices, and they must also cover a one-time $36 activation fee, along with taxes and surcharges each month. Further, after the year is up, customers on this plan will be moved to a rate-per-line plan that runs from $50 for one line to $180 for five. Still, this is a pretty aggressive offer from the nations fourth-largest carrier, and an interesting way to combat AT&T's bundle offers.

Source: Sprint

As they have done for most of its events in the past few years, Apple will once again live stream the upcoming iPhone event. The recently-announced event will take place on September 9, beginning at 1 p.m. EDT/10 a.m. PDT.
From Apple's event website:

Join us here on September 9 at 10 a.m. PDT to watch the keynote live.

In a break from previous years, Apple's stream will not be exclusive to Apple devices and browsers. Apple will also stream out to 75 million Windows 10 users using Microsoft's new Edge browser. If you are watching through an Apple device, iPhones and iPads will need to be running iOS 7 or later, while Macs will need to be on OS X 10.8.5 or later with at least Safar 6.0.5. To watch the event on your television, you'll need a second- or third-generation Apple TV.
iMore will be there at the event, so be sure to stay tuned from the latest on Apple's announcements.

iPhone 6c reportedly not in the cards for Apple's Sep...

While Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus at its event on September 9, don't expect a new, smaller, plastic-sheathed iPhone 6c to come along with them. A new report claims that Apple has indeed been testing such a device, but that it is not yet ready for prime time.
From 9to5Mac:

Sources say that while Apple has been working on a new 4-inch iPhone with the capabilities of last year's iPhone 6, the device is not yet ready to ship. Interestingly, Apple has also internally prototyped a new, smaller iPhone with a 3.5-inch display, the same size of the iPhone's screen from the first model in 2007 to the iPhone 4S in 2011, but it does not appear that the company plans to move forward with actually releasing such a device.

Additionally, Apple will reportedly discontinue the iPhone 5c, the multicolored plastic phone originally introduced in 2013 alongside the iPhone 5s. Instead, the company will apparently continue to sell the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, and 5s.
We'll get a better idea about Apple's phone lineup after its event on September 9.

Instagram adds landscape and portrait formats, showcases...

instagram-update-new-sharing-iphone.jpg?
Instagram has added support for showing landscape and portrait images and videos in its popular photo sharing app. This will offer users a couple of extra options to show off their images and clips besides the current square format.
Instagram stated:

Square format has been and always will be part of who we are. That said, the visual story you're trying to tell should always come first, and we want to make it simple and fun for you to share moments just the way you want to. It turns out that nearly one in five photos or videos people post aren't in the square format, and we know that it hasn't been easy to share this type of content on Instagram: friends get cut out of group shots, the subject of your video feels cramped and you can't capture the Golden Gate Bridge from end to end. Now, when choosing a photo or video, you can tap the format icon to adjust the orientation to portrait or landscape instead of square. Once you share the photo, the full-sized version of it will appear to all of your followers in feed in a beautiful, natural way. To keep the clean feel of your profile grid, your post will appear there as a center-cropped square.

In a pretty cool way to show off the new landscape format, Disney and Lucasfilm have debuted a new mini-trailer on the official Star Wars Instagram account for the upcoming movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with new footage from the film that opens in theaters this December

There has been an awakening... #StarWars #TheForceAwakens

First, there is now a Workflow widget for the Notification Center, as well as Workflow Sync.

With the widget, you can have easy access to your workflows from anywhere just by pulling down the Notification Center. You can choose which of your workflows end up in the widget in each workflow's settings, and you can also add contact shortcuts to the widget instead.

With Workflow Sync, you can share your workflows between your devices. iphone_6_camera_close.jpg?itok=ZW1UqDe4
Lining up with previous reports, the iPhone 6s is once again rumored to receive a substantial camera upgrade when it launches this fall. The phone is again said to feature a 12-megapixel rear-facing iSight camera, and will reportedly also include a brand new image signal processor on the A9 system-on-a-chip.
According ot 9to5Mac, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will also be able to record video in 4K:

In addition to a much-upgraded rear still camera, Apple has decided to make a significant addition to the iPhone's video recording capabilities: 4K video recording support. The iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus will be the first iPhones capable of recording video in full 4K resolution and among the first phones on the market with such capabilities, though Samsung's Galaxy S5 launched with 4K video recording support in early 2014.

Additionally, Apple is said to include support for a flash when using the front-facing FaceTime camera. This will reportedly not be a stand-alone physical flash module, however, like that found on the back of the phone. Instead, the phone will briefly light up the screen when flash is turned on when using the FaceTime camera.
We expect to learn all about the next iPhone's camera, among other features, at Apple's iPhone event on September 9, 2015.

<a href='http://www.imore.com...5-iphone-event'title="Apple sends out 'Hey Siri, give us a hint!' invitations for September 9, 2015 iPhone event!">

Apple has sent out invitations for this year's iPhone event. The tag line reads "Hey Siri, give us a hint!" and it's widely expected that hint will include the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and the new Apple TV. Also on tap, the next-generaton software that makes it all run, including iOS 9 and watchOS 2.

The invitation shows the top of the Apple logo, which has been used several times in recent years, stylized to resemble the new Siri interface. That and the overt mention of Siri in the invitation text should lead to some fun speculation going into the event.

Apple has already shown off Siri Intelligence as part of the upcoming iOS 9 software update, including proactive assistance and integration with text search. That hasn't stopped wish-lists from overflowing with desires for on-board Siri processing and other, additional features.

The elephant—or tiny little box—in the room, of course, is Siri for Apple TV. So, let the fun fantasizing escalate!

The iPhone event will be held at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco on Wednesday, September 9, starting at 10:00 a.m. Apple will stream it live over HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) to iOS, Apple TV, Safari on Mac, and Edge on Windows 10.

iMore will be there live to bring you all the color, commentary, and analysis you've come to expect!

UPDATE: Siri really is getting into the hint game

iPhone 6s

iPhone 6s FAQ

iPhone 6s news

iPhone 6s discussion

iOS 9 news

 /* >/* >/* ><!--*/ .devicebox { background-color: #5CB8DB;
