The Razer Nabu fitness smartband is getting a relaunch in...

razer-nabu-2.jpg?itok=LtgSDkvm

Remember the Razer Nabu fitness smartband? Well, Razer wants you to know that the wearable is finally launching, or rather re-launching, in October. The Nabu, which was first announced in January 2014 at CES, will have a few design changes along the way.

You may remember that, after months of delays, the Razer Nabu was supposed to launch in late 2014. As it turned out, only a handful of people got their hands on the smartband, and their feedback on the product sent Razer's design team back to make some changes to the Nabu, including putting its main button on top and putting in a magnetic clasp on the side.

The Razer Nabu will still have a small OLED screen that can notify users of any incoming smartphone emails, text messages and more. Two Nabu owners can share social media information and data with each other's band if they shake hands. There will also be an updated smartphone companion app for the Nabu that will offer users a number of fitness and sleep tracking statistics.

Pre-orders for the Razer Nabu relaunch start on September 15 for $99.99 and shipments will begin in October.

The sensors on the iPhone and Apple Watch could be used in an upcoming study that might someday help people who experience epileptic seizures. A new report says that Johns Hopkins University and Thread Research will begin conducting a ResearchKit study on epilepsy with Apple's products.

According to AppleInsider:

Seeking deeper insight into epileptic seizures and their effect on the human body, Johns Hopkins' ResearchKit study will collect heart rate sensor and accelerometer data from Watch, gyroscope data from iPhone and dynamic user feedback to track a variety of biometric measurements during a seizure episode, according to a source familiar with the project. The iPhone and Watch apps are slated to go live on Sept. 18.

The study will be conducted on an opt-in basis, and Johns Hopkins reportedly hopes that it will get a large number of people to enter, due to the large numbers of Apple fans who own the iPhone and Apple Watch.

New Apple TV remote said to feature motion control

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News

In addition to a touchpad and Siri support, the remote for the upcoming refresh of the Apple TV is said to have one more more thing: motion control. A new report, which reiterates much of what's been said previously about Apple's new set top box, mentions that the new remote for the Apple TV will be motion-sensing.

From TechCrunch:

One thing that hasn't been talked about yet is the fact that the new remote will be motion sensitive, likely including several axis' worth of sensors that put its control on par with a Nintendo Wii remote. The possibilities, of course, are immediately evident.

Apple will reportedly position this remote as a new way to play games on the TV, not only with motion control, but also voice input.

A new Apple TV is widely rumored to be set for a September 9 unveiling alongside new iPhones at Apple's upcoming event. The new box is expected to feature heavily upgraded internals, including an Apple A8 system-on-a-chip and a refreshed, lighter interface.

Apple reportedly rolling out in-store mobile Apple Watch...

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News

Apple is reportedly rolling out a new way for customers to try on the Apple Watch in its retail stores. Called Mobile Try-On, the new initiative is said to focus on demonstrating the watch in a more natural fashion than the current method, which keeps customers at a demo table.

Apple Store employees are apparently given Apple Watch demo units to wear around their store, showing it to customers occupying different sections, and demonstrating how an Apple Watch can make their overall iPhone experience better. The memo, obtained by 9to5Mac, details a few scenarios:

Now you can give customers browsing collections at the Display Table a hands-on experience of the Apple Watch in a simple, nature way, and then navigate to the Try-On Table. Take advantage of the paired iPhone to show how they work together.

In the Family Room, customers waiting for appointments can experience Apple Watch. Find out their favorite iPhone feature and show how the Watch can make it better, or show off Calendar events or text messages sent straight to their wrist.

Five specific features are said to be the focus of these mobile try-ons: watch face customization, sending a message with Siri, sending an audio message with iMessage, rearranging watch apps, and using the connection Glance to ping an iPhone.

It's interesting to watch Apple try a new method of demonstrating the Apple Watch to new customers. While the exisitng demonstration methods serve their purpose of introducing customers to watch features well, they do seem a bit sterile. Something with a more personal touch would be nice to see.

Apple reportedly shuttering One to One on September 28

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News

It appears that Apple may be shutting down its One to One education program in its Apple Retail Stores at the end of September. A memo has reportedly been sent to retail staff letting them know that One to One will be discontinued on September 28, with the revamped Workshops program taking its place.

From memo, obtained by 9to5Mac:

Open Training and Thematic Workshops are great options. Thematic Workshops offer dynamic learning where customers learn from the instructor and other participants. Open Training encourages a collaborative learning environment for One to One members to work on their goals. We'll be providing guidance to increase the number of Thematic Workshops that your store will offer to customers.

It's not surprising to see One to One being shuttered. The program is expensive for stores to run, and with an ever-dwindling number of new sign ups, it's probably better for Apple to put focus in areas that will end up serving more customers.

Accessory maker SCOSCHE has debuted a new rugged Bluetooth speaker perfect for the outdoors. The BoomBOTTLE+ is a tough new cylindrical speaker that you can take pretty much anywhere thanks to its dust and water proofing and large battery, letting you listen to the latest tracks on Apple Music or catch up on your favorite podcasts on the go.

The sound of the BoomBOTTLE+ is powered by 55mm drivers, along with two passive radiators. The size and cylindrical shape of the speakers allows it to fit inside a bike's water bottle cage, allowing cyclists to take it anywhere without blocking their hearing with headphones. The speaker is IP67 rated, meaning that it's completely dust tight, and can be immersed in water up to one meter deep. It also has a shock-absorbent shell to keep it safe from drops.

SCOSCHE says that the 6,000mAh battery can deliver 15 hours of music playback, and the BoomBOTTLE+ is even supposed to charge your phone or tablet while in use. The speaker comes in three color options: Black/Space Gray, Black/Gold, and Sport Blue. It is available now from SCOSCHE for $179.99.

Buy the BoomBOTTLE+ from SCOSCHE for $179.99
