show-your-disney-side-app.jpg?w=704&h=46Today Disney Parks released a free iOS app called Show Your Disney Side, which transforms you into a 3D moving Disney character. Your Disney Side is the part of you that laughs a little bit louder, believes in magic, and never backs down from a pirate fight (even against Captain Hook!). This app was created to help you channel your inner Disney Side even when you’re nowhere near a Disney Park.

disney-side-9to5mac-2.jpg?w=704&h=704disney-side-9to5mac-1.jpg?w=704&h=704

Turn yourself into a princess from Frozen, a X-Wing Pilot from Star Wars, Jafar from Aladdin, and several other Disney characters. You can even unlock new Haunted Mansion characters by visiting a Disney Park or sharing your Disney Side pics on social media.

The idea is pretty simple. Choose the character you’d like to become, snap a quick selfie, make a couple quick photo adjustments and you’re all set. The app will create a 3D moving image of yourself as the Disney character you picked. There’s also a share button so you can send your favorite shots to friends and family.

Download it for free.

Here’s a couple of tips from the Disney Parks Blog to help your transformation:

  • Smile big – but without your teeth showing.
  • Make sure your hair isn’t blocking your face.
  • Try to take your photo in front of a plain background.

Promo video and full App Store description follows:

We all have a Disney Side—the side of us that comes out to play the moment we step through the gates at Disney Parks. The new Show Your Disney Side app will help bring YOURS to life! Transform into a Jedi, a pirate, or other Disney Parks characters wherever you are!

CREATE – Choose a Disney Parks character, take a selfie and transform into your Disney Side.

PLAY – Try different costumes, add a frame, then tap and swipe to watch your Disney Side come to life with special effects

SHARE – Whether you’re at a Disney Park or at home, you can share your Disney Side with your family and friends right from the app

Apple Watch has a Lightning port for development, but won...

A new report from TechCrunch notes that the upcoming Apple Watch has a port that Apple has yet to show off hidden in one of the two slots where the Watch’s straps connect to its case. The report brings up the possibility of using it to facilitate “smart straps” and other Apple Watch accessories, but 9to5Mac has learned from sources that the port, which is actually a Lightning port being used for testing, will not be included on the product shipping to customers.

The port is currently being used to connect to the Watch for development purposes, but TechCrunch speculated it could be used to bring “smart straps” to the device in the future:

The reason I ask is that the Apple Watch has a port that the company has yet to show off. It’s being used for diagnostics and direct access to the Watch operating system, but it’s feasible that could be used to connect accessories in the future.

A similar platform was announced as part of the recently introduced Pebble Time smart watch to allow bands to interact with the watch’s OS and add additional sensors to the device.

The report from TechCrunch also notes that Apple snuck in its usual “Assembled in China – Designed by Apple in California” marking inside the other strap slot.

AppleCare now supporting Beats Music service, Apple Pay f...

apple-pay1.jpg?w=704&h=396

Starting today, AppleCare will begin providing support service for Beats Music customers as well as businesses interested in accepting Apple Pay, according to sources. Support for the streaming music service previously went through a separate system from Apple’s other products and services. AppleCare staff has also been advised on helping businesses with accepting Apple Pay as the company pushes its new mobile payment service.

img.php?z=1288305&k=0d0633b70e3c2bda246a
Support for Beats products has slowly been integrated with Apple’s customer support channel for its products and services since Apple bought Beats Electronics and Beats Music for $3 billion last year. Most recently we reported that Apple would begin offering online chat support for Beats hardware. Apple has steadily been moving its outsourced support systems for Beats products in-house, as we previously reported.

As for Apple Pay, the change is part of a new initiative to encourage businesses to accept Apple Pay and expand the locations where the iPhone and Apple Watch owners can use the mobile payment service. AppleCare agents will promote the newly published Apple Pay FAQ document for merchants, while specific Apple Pay Merchant support will also be available.

Integrating Beats Music customer support with AppleCare is just one more step before Apple ships its overhauled music streaming service based on the Beats system later this year.

Hidden Diagnostic Port on Apple Watch Could Allow for Sma...

apple_watch_sensor-250x297.jpgAhead of Monday's media event where Apple is expected to provide final details on the Apple Watch, a new report from TechCrunch details a hidden "diagnostic port" inside one of the channels on the Apple Watch where watch bands slip into place. While the port is currently used only for diagnostic purposes, the report argues it could be used in the future to interface with "smart band" accessories bringing additional functionality to the watch.
The port has a 6-dot brass contact array inside the groove for the ‘bottom’ strap connector slot. Several sources have confirmed its existence and placement to me. It is very similar to the connector for the Lightning connector in iPhones, as that connector currently only uses 6 of its 8 available pins. Apple recently began opening up the Lightning port for use by third parties. A source says that this port is currently for diagnostic purposes only — but that there is nothing preventing it from being a connection port for future accessories.
TechCrunch's Matthew Panzarino is careful to state that he has no knowledge of any plans by Apple to launch such smart band accessories, but the idea remains an intriguing one. Possibilities for such bands include additional sensors, external batteries integrated into a band, and more.

Apple revealed a number of high-level details about the Apple Watch at the device's unveiling last September, but even now with a launch set for next month there is still much that remains unknown, including pricing details beyond the $349 starting price. Apple will undoubtedly address many of the details at Monday's events, but some of the technical details will likely need to wait until the device launches and users and technical experts can get a closer look at the device.mf.gif

Apple to Unveil Revamped Streaming Music Service at WWDC

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News
beatsmusic-250x244.jpgApple will launch a revamped streaming music service in June at the company's annual Worldwide Developers Conference, according to 9to5Mac and TechCrunch. The report claims the new Beats-based service will debut at Apple's WWDC keynote, likely during the week of June 8, as opposed to an announcement taking place at the upcoming "Spring Forward" media event on March 9.
"Apple currently plans to launch the new music service as part of an iOS 8.4 upgrade for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch following WWDC, but a final decision has not yet been made. It’s possible that the service will be bundled into iOS 9 this fall, which is expected to have a significant focus on bug fixes and stability improvements."
As detailed last month, the purported streaming music service is expected to cost up to $7.99 per month, a few dollars cheaper than Apple-owned Beats Music and competitors such as Spotify, Rdio and Google Play Music. The service will be deeply integrated into iTunes on Mac and the stock Music app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, and apps will also be available for Apple TV and Android.

Apple is developing its first in-house Android application for the upcoming streaming music service, one of the rarer times that the iPhone maker offers cross-platform support for its products and services. Nevertheless, as the release of iTunes for Windows in the early 2000s helped drive sales of the iPod, expanding beyond the iPhone, iPad and Mac will provide Apple with a much larger pool of potential subscribers in the competitive streaming music market.

Apple is also reportedly wrapping up development of its next-generation Apple TV set-top box that could ship with an improved, tactile remote control and all-new operating system bundled with an App Store. Apple allegedly planned to release a new Apple TV as soon as this month, but the release may be delayed until later this year or beyond until Apple reaches agreements with more content providers like HBO Now.mf.gif

Apple Notifying Aperture Users of Impending Removal From...

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News
Photos-for-OS-X-iMac-250x238.pngApple has sent an email to Aperture customers this afternoon as a reminder about the impending removal of the professional photo editing software from the Mac App Store. The email confirms that Aperture will be removed from the Mac App Store upon the release of Photos for OS X as we initially reported last month.
"When Photos for OS X launches this spring, Aperture will no longer be available for purchase from the Mac App Store. You can continue to use Aperture on OS X Yosemite, but you will not be able to buy additional copies of the app.

You can migrate your Aperture library to Photos for OS X, including your photos, adjustments, albums, and keywords. After migrating, your Aperture library remains intact. However, Aperture and Photos do not share a unified library, so any changes made after the migration will not be shared between the apps."
Aperture users will be able to continue using the software on OS X Yosemite following its discontinuation, although the app will no longer be available for purchase on the Mac App Store and new feature updates are not planned. Aperture users can migrate their photo libraries to Photos for OS X, including photos, adjustments, albums and keywords.

Photos for OS X will be available this spring for OS X Yosemite.mf.gif
