How to create folders and add apps to your iPhone 6s and...

Keep your Home screen clutter-free by creating folders.

Your iPhone and iPad Home screens can hold dozens and dozens of apps, but thanks to folders, that number leaps up to thousands. If your Home screen is getting a bit messy, consider folders to help you collect and organize apps of a similar type, color, style, or whatever specifics you dictate.

How create folders on your iPhone or iPad
 1. Go to your Home screen.
 2. Touch and hold on the app you want to create a folder for until all apps begin to jiggle and you enter Edit mode. (If you have an iPhone 6s and press too hard, you'll trigger 3D Touch; tap and hold lightly to enter Edit mode.)
 3. While continuing to hold your finger down on the app, drag it on top of another app you want in the same folder.
 4. If you don't like the automatic name iOS creates for your folder, tap the name field and change it to anything you like, then tap Done.

 5. Tap outside the folder area to return to the Home screen.
 6. Drag any additional apps that you want in the folder onto the folder.
 7. Click the Home button to exit Edit mode and complete the new folder.
How to add apps to folders on iPhone or iPad
 1. Go to your Home screen.
 2. Touch and hold on the app you want to add to your folder until all apps begin to jiggle and you enter Edit mode.
 3. While continuing to hold your finger down on the app, drag it to the folder.
 4. Release your finger to drop it into the folder.

 5. Drag any additional apps that you want onto that folder.
 6. Click the Home button to exit Edit mode.
How to remove a folder from your iPhone or iPad
 1. Go to your Home screen and tap the folder in question.
 2. Touch and hold on an app in the folder to enter Edit mode.
 3. Drag all apps out of the folder, at which point it will disappear.

Apple Watch Hermès launches tomorrow, here's everythi...

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News

Interested in Apple Watch Hermès? Here's when to buy, where to buy, and all your buying options!

Apple Watch Hermès is Apple's first foray into direct fashion partnerships for the Apple Watch. It brings together the stainless steel and sapphire crystal Apple hardware with the luxury leather of Hermès into a combined collection of four unique pairings and a look that's both old world and cutting edge. If you're interested in Apple Watch Hermès, here's everything you need to know for the launch!

What's Hermès?

Hermès is a Paris-based fashion brand famed for its luxury leather. It was founded in 1837 by Thierry Hermès who made high quality harnesses and bridles for the carriage market. Over the years the company expanded into accessories and clothing and went international. Today Hermès has over a dozen divisions, including perfume, tableware, and jewelry, and has retail outlets in some of the most fashionable cities in the world.

So, why Apple Watch Hermès?

Apple says they partnered with Hermès because of parallel thinking, singular vision, and mutual regard. After launching with the 18K yellow gold and rose gold Apple Watch Edition back in April, it was evident Apple wasn't constraining the product to traditional technology models and methods.

Apple Watch Hermès is the next stage of that thinking. For people who are are interesting in Apple Watch, and appreciate brands like Hermès, it's simply going to be the Apple Watch they want to get, same as someone into performance activity will gravitate towards and Apple Watch Sport.

What's different about the Apple Watch Hermès hardware?

The Apple Watch casing itself is the stainless steel model, identical to the current Apple Watch collection.

What kind of bands are in the Hermès collection?

The Apple Watch Hermès collection has three bands styles and several colors, but the details vary by size:

Single Tour

The Hermès version of the classic buckle.

 • 42mm: Fauvre (brown), Noir (black).
 • 38mm Fauvre (brown), Noir (black), Capucine (red).
Double Tour

The classic buckle made long enough to wrap around twice.

 • 38mm: Fauve (brown), Etain (gray), Capucine (red), and Bleu Jean (blue).

A nod to the equestrian heritage of Hermès, the cuff is almost as much bracer as band.

 • 42mm: Fauve (brown).
Are there any software differences? Special clock faces?

Yes, but yes! The difference, like the Edition, is special clock faces designed by Apple based on Hermès branding. You get all the standard Apple Watch clock faces, of course, as well as the ones unique to Apple Watch Hermès.

How much does Apple Watch Hermès cost?

Apple Watch Hermès is at the highest end of the Apple Watch (steel) range, at least for now.

 • Single Tour: $1100
 • Double Tour: $1250
 • Cuff: $1500
When does Apple Watch Hermès launch?

You can pick up an Apple Watch Hermès starting Monday, October 5, 2015 at select retail locations in select cities.

Retail only, no online?

No online, sadly. If you want an Apple Watch Hermès at launch you'll have to be in one of the launch cities or get a friend in one of those cities to pick it up on your behalf.

Apple snaps up U.K. speech recognition startup VocalIQ

02 Oct 2015

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News
Apple has purchased a U.K.-based startup called VocalIQ. The company apparently focuses on natural language processing technology, which allows users to speak to their devices in a more natural fashion, like the technology already behind Siri. VocalIQ specifically uses machine learning to build out its services, an area that Apple has shown an increased interest in as of late.
From the Financial Times:

While VocalIQ's speech processing and machine learning technology could be incorporated into devices from wearables to the connected home, the company was particularly focused on in-car applications. This included a collaboration with General Motors.

When asked about the acquisition, Apple gave its standard response:

"Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans," Apple said in a statement confirming the deal.

Apple has reportedly been pursuing new hires in artificial intelligence and machine learning for some time now. Apple has also made some strides in more consumer-facing artificial intelligence features, particularly with iOS 9, which includes smarter search and a more intelligent Siri.

Tim Cook talks universal search on the Apple TV

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News

In a recent interview, Tim Cook discussed the new, universal search feature on the upcoming Apple TV. While at launch the search feature will show results from iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and Showtime, Cook expects developers to incorporate search into their TV apps quickly thanks to the tvOS search API.

From Buzzfeed:

And Apple's confident that they will do just that. "I think that many, many people will want to be in that search," Cook said. "And that's great for users. Think about your experience today. Even if you're fortunate enough to have the content you want to watch in an app, you sometimes don't remember exactly where that show is, so you're going to Netflix or Hulu or Showtime. You shouldn't have to do that. It should be very simple."

Cook also said that universal search will make clear just where a particular piece of content is, and it will display seasons and episodes on all services in which they can be found, in addition to iTunes.

The new Apple TV, with its universal search and support for third party apps, will be available at some point this month. Developer recently began recieving hardware kits for the box, allowing them to test apps, including those supporting universal search, on actual devices.

So why is Apple implementing it?

Malware is a really serious problem not just on Windows but the Mac too—it seems like almost every week, we get a new report of some sort of malware or adware that's attacking Apple users. Most of these outbreaks are contained quickly, fortunately, and mitigated by the built-in anti-malware and technologies like Gatekeeper.

Apple can always do better, and in El Capitan, they have. To help bolster the Mac's security against malware infections, Apple's come up with System Integrity Protection

Before El Capitan, people could easily modify, or allow to be modified, core system files used by OS X by entering their administrator password. It's how, for example, we grant software installers "root" access to setup apps.

That's why, El Capitan has gone "rootless". System Integrity Protection makes sure the vital system files are safe from modification. This is a good thing: It should reduce the likelihood that you can accidentally infect yourself with malware, or that someone can gain access to your Mac or your files by escalating privilege exploits remotely.

If you use system-modifying utilities and system extensions that made essential changes to the way OS X works, however, you may notice that they no longer function or need to be updated.

SIP created problems for some developers during El Capitan's public beta development period over the summer. In many cases those problems have either been straightened out or are getting straightened out now. So check with the makers of the apps you use to see if they have updates.

And of course stay tuned to iMore, because we'll report on key updates as they become available.

Of course, you do have ultimate control over what happens on your Mac, so you can deactivate System Integrity Protection if you want to. I strongly advise against doing this, but I completely understand that you may be dependent on software that has to work regardless. I'll just reiterate one last time that SIP has been instituted in El Capitan for a reason: To protect you and to protect your Mac. Apple takes your privacy very seriously.

How to turn off System Integrity Protection in El Capitan

Click the  menu.

Select Restart...

Hold down command-R to boot into the Recovery System.

Click the Utilities menu and select Terminal.

Type csrutil disable and press return.

Close the Terminal app.

Click the  menu and select Restart....

If you decide later you want to re-engage SIP (and I earnestly hope that you do), repeat these steps, changing csrutil disable to csrutil enable instead.

Again, SIP has been instituted in El Capitan for a reason — to improve OS X security, and reduce the risk of anyone who isn't supposed to from getting to your data. But as in all things, your mileage may vary. Just be careful!

[custum:elcapbox]
