Gazelle vows to beat carrier and Apple's iPhone trade...

Gazelle, the service that allows you to trade-in your old tech and receive cash in return, is running a promotion from today through September 9 where they promise to beat carrier and Apple trade-in prices. This offer covers the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and you'll be covered by the standard 30-day offer lock, just in case you'll need some more time to think about a possible upgrade to the new iPhone 6s.

Should you happen to locate a better deal at either Apple or your local carrier, Gazelle will beat that price during this promotional period. All colors and capacities of the aforementioned iPhone smartphones are included, but fear not if you have older units or other handsets as the company will also offer competitive pricing on anything you have available for trade-in.

Gazelle will offer up to $450 for trading in an old iPhone 6 Plus in flawless condition. The model, capacity and whether or not the unit is unlocked will also affect the amount you'd be set to receive. It's certainly worth analyzing your available options to see exactly which solution is best for you. Be sure to check out the Gazelle website and see how much you'd receive.

GAZELLE GUARANTEES BEST PRICE FOR iPHONE TRADES

Will Beat Major Wireless Carriers and Apple with Special Promotional Pricing

BOSTON, Mass., Sept. 2, 2015 – Gazelle, Inc., the nation's leader in buying and reselling pre-owned consumer electronics, today announced a limited time promotion guaranteeing the best price on trade-ins of certain iPhone models from today through September 9th. The special promotion guarantees that Gazelle's cash offer for the iPhone 5S, 6 and 6 Plus will beat the trade-in credit offered by a customer's wireless carrier (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile or Sprint) or Apple.

"Gazelle has always offered cash and great customer service but we're now also guaranteeing consumers the best price," said Sarah Welch, Gazelle's Chief Marketing Officer. "Consumers are frustrated by confusing carrier offers that often require a lengthy commitment or other terms and conditions. Unlike the carriers, Gazelle prides itself on offering a simple customer experience with no strings attached. Gazelle's industry-leading online experience also let customers sell their phones from home in just minutes, avoiding the long lines consumers are likely to run into at carrier stores following an iPhone launch."

Gazelle's Best Price Guarantee ensures that consumers will receive the best value through its trade-in service – paid out in cash not credit. If customers find a better offer from either their carrier or at Apple through September 9, 2015, Gazelle will beat the offer. The promotion covers all colors and capacities of the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. As always, Gazelle will offer competitive pricing on older models, as well. Terms of the promotion can be found here.

Gazelle recently commissioned a survey of more than 500 smartphone owners across the U.S. and found that many consumers are confused and angry at their wireless carrier and looking for alternatives. The survey showed that 42% are angry about losing carrier subsidies on the purchase of new iPhones, which now cost $650 or more, whether paid upfront or in monthly installments. Maximizing the value from trade-in is a great way to offset the high cost of upgrading.

Consumers should do their homework when looking at trade-in offers. The best offers from carriers may include conditions like new account activation or delayed bill credits, leaving many consumers with far less value for their phone than the trade-in value promoted in ads. Also, promotional pricing is often not offered to customers in carrier upgrade programs like AT&T Next, T-Mobile Jump and Verizon Edge. Carrier upgrade programs often require consumers to return their old phone without paying the consumer for the phone. Trading in with a third party like Gazelle could prove to be more financially lucrative and Gazelle's cash offer lets consumers choose how and when to spend the value from their old phone.

Dubai-based airline Emirates has announced that it will offer customers in the U.S. and U.K. the chance to use Apple Pay for booking their flights. Support for the payment service comes as part of the app's latest update.

With Apple Pay support in the app, Emirates customers can purchase their tickets through the app without needing to fill in and store any credit or debit card information with Emirates. Emirates will also apparently offer the same rewards to customers purchasing with Apple Pay as they do to those that purchase with credit and debit cards.

You can grab the latest update to the Emirates app with support for Apple Pay from the App Store now.

Samsung launches next-generation SmartThings smart home a...

smartthings-hub.jpg?itok=PkRJMvly

At IFA, Samsung unveiled the second-generation SmartThings smart home automation hub, which will be available from later today in the US. The open ecosystem allows the SmartThings Hub to connect to a variety of sensors and accessories from a range of manufacturers.

The Hub has a beefier processor that allows it to handle video monitoring, with Samsung introducing a service that allows you to monitor video feeds from a connected camera remotely through the SmartThings app on Android and iOS. Dubbed Smart Home Monitor, the feature shows a continuous video livestream, also delivering real-time notifications and recorded content from connected cameras when it senses activity, smoke, fire, leaks and floods.

The new hub does not need to be connected to the Internet to function, and comes with built-in 10-hour battery backup in the event of power failure. Samsung will sell the hub from later today in the US for $99, with a range of sensors also available for around $30 each. The hub and sensors will be making their way to the UK next week, with availability in other regions in Europe slated to commence in 2016.

The Hub is integral to Samsung's IoT ambitions, with the vendor stating that within five years, all of its products, including TVs, soundbars, washing machines and fridges, will be able to integrate with the SmartThings Hub.

We'll let you know once the new hub goes up for sale.

New Apple TV said to bet big on universal search

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News

With the expected reveal of the new Apple TV just a week away, a new report offers more detail on the rumored universal search feature for the box. A major facet of the Apple TV's reported software overall, universal search is said to allow users to search not only the iTunes Store, but also other video services like Netflix and Hulu. Siri will also reportedly serve as the primary way to use this new search.

From Buzzfeed:

Instead of searching the catalogs of multiple video services one-at-a-time for a particular movie, you'll now be able to search all — or most of them — at once and then choose the service on which you'd like to watch it. You'll also be able to search for actors and directors, and run other more targeted searches as well — all with Siri.

Search is said not only to be powered by the same proactive assistant that will be found in iOS 9 on the iPhone and iPad, but also technology from Matcha, which Apple acquired in 2013.

Buzzfeed also reports that the new Apple TV will also start at $149. We expect to get all the details on Apple's new set-top box next week at Apple's September 9 event.

Apple TV refresh said to offer 16GB option, no 4K support...

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News

The expected reveal of the new Apple TV is coming soon, and a clearer picture is forming as to the hardware expected in the little box. In addition to the expected A8 system-on-a-chip and faster Wi-Fi, the new Apple TV will reportedly come in a 16GB variant. This would make sense, as the new model is also said to come with an App Store.

While 16GB might seem a little small, Apple is apparently unconcerned, as most content will stream to the box from the Internet, according to 9to5Mac:

While the new Apple TV will include an App Store for deep support for gaming, sources say that the limited storage offered by 8GB and 16GB flash memory is appropriate for the new model, as all content outside of applications will be streamed directly from the Internet.

The new Apple TV will also reportedly not include 4K support in this iteration. Given the current dearth of 4K content that's available, it's likely that Apple wouldn't want to devote resources to something that only a very small fraction of users would even be able to experience.

The new Apple TV is expected to be unveiled next week at Apple's September 9 event. The first major update to the set-top box in five years, the new Apple TV is expected to feature an Apple A8 system-on-a-chip, a brand new remote with motion control, a touchpad, and Siri support, as well as universal search. Recent reports put the starting price of the Apple TV at $149.

Unkilled is the new zombie shooter from the makers of the...

unkilled.jpg?itok=ZKoexpYV

Developer Madfinger Games, best know as the creators of the zombie-themed Dead Trigger shooter series, have just launched their previously announced game Unkilled. While both Unkilled and the Dead Trigger games both center on the player shooting zombies, Madfinger claims they have done their best to make Unkilled a better experience, in both graphics and gameplay.

The setting for Unkilled is New York City, which is in the middle of a massive zombie outbreak. Your first player character is Joe, a member of the anti-zombie unit WOLFPACK, who has to try to fight off the undead before it becomes a global threat. Madfinger says:

Like before, gamers will enjoy an insane visual quality never before seen in mobile gaming. In the grand scheme of things, it means stunning graphics with many advanced effects like high resolution soft shadows, GPU-simulated particle effects numbering in the tens of thousands of textures, reflective surfaces, and post processing effects for a cinematic feel.

In whole, gameplay provides an amazingly long storyline with more than 100 missions, many unique enemies supported by special bosses, a diverse and huge arsenal of weapons, and unique allies to help player to survive and succeed in mission quests.

Apart from the story campaign missions, the players can look forward to many side missions where they complete quests in order to gain useful resources that allow them to buy new gadgets, weapons, and upgrades. Based on a similar principle, there are also special timed campaigns, each consisting of three missions.

Among the gadgets with the most entertaining potential are homing rockets that never miss their target, causing explosions that are one of the gameplay's visual high points. Adrenaline, which slows down the zombies and thus provides more time for headshots, is equally interesting. Regularly spawning treasure chests contain other valuable resources needed for the progress in the game. Apart from gold, these can include special gadgets with temporary effects and unique single-use weapons.

You can download the free-to-play Unkilled right now in the App Store:

iPhone 6s said to be identical to previous models, featur...

apple_care_iphone_6_temp_hero.jpg?itok=Z

Update 9/2/15: 9to5Mac is also reporting that the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will be made from the same 7000 series aluminum alloy as the Apple Watch.

The iPhone 6s will reportedly look almost identical to both the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, though with many internal changes to its casing. Internal changes will apparently include a new mounting structure for the logic board and other components.

According to photos obtained by 9to5Mac, most components visible to customers will remain unchanged:

The bottom design of the iPhone 6S is exactly the same as with the prior model, down to the number of speaker holes and the position of the headphone, microphone, and Lightning holes. This will be good news for case and accessory makers, who won't have to worry about redesigning their iPhone 6 products for the iPhone 6S.

This isn't that surprising, as the the so-called "S" iPhone models tend to have, if any, only minor external differences with their predecessors, with those changes often coming down to colors. The iPhone 6s is expected to be released later this year, and is said to include Apple's A9 system-on-a-chip, support for Force Touch, 2GB of RAM, and a 12MP camera.

Verizon will introduce a revamped company logo later this...

verizon-new-logo.jpg?itok=eakBwQsL

Earlier this week, Google revamped its official logo, and soon Verizon Wireless will do the same thing. The wireless carrier will officially reveal the new logo for the company on Thursday.

According to Ad Age:

Verizon said that design agency Pentagram created the new logo. Landor Associates crafted the old Verizon logo back in 2000, when Verizon Communications was formed after the merger of Bell Atlantic and GTE Corp."

Even though the change wasn't supposed to be revealed today, the new logo leaked onto the Internet via Twitter. The two major changes are that the red "Z" in the middle of the old logo has been ditched and the large red checkmark above the logo has now been moved to the right side and cut down in size.

There's no word if Verizon plans to launch a major new marketing campaign on Thursday alongside the revamped logo.

People who have been waiting for Apple to launch a large iPad Pro tablet may get their wish in the near future. A new report claims that the company is planning to start taking pre-orders for the iPad Pro, along with the iPad mini 4, in October, with a launch planned for sometime in November.

According to 9to5Mac:

The "iPad Pro" (which is actually the planned name of the device) is currently scheduled to hit retail outlets in November, following a pre-order campaign that will launch toward the end of October, sources indicate."

The report adds that while both new iPad models are currently expected to be officially revealed at Apple's September 9 press event, it does hold out the possibility that the company could decide to wait and host another media event in October to formally introduce the iPad Pro and iPad mini 4. iMore will be attending Apple's big event in San Francisco next week to get first-hand reports on the company's big reveals.
