How to use Apple Pay: The ultimate guide

Apple Pay — or Pay if you're fancy — is Apple's mobile payment service. It stores your credit and debit card information on a Secure Element and lets you use it to pay online via apps on the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, or iPad mini 3, or in-store via near-field communications (NFC) on the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, and even with the Apple Watch and any of the iPhones 5 or 6.

Authorization is handled by Touch ID or passcode, credit card information never leaves the device and is never synced to the cloud. One-time tokens are used when you pay so your real credit card information is never shared with developers or retailers. Best of all, it's not just secure — once it's setup, it's incredibly easy to use!

Apple Pay requirements and availability

ipad_mini_3_apple_pay_hero.jpg?itok=72nV

Apple Pay is currently available in the U.S. and U.K, and while most major banks support it, not all do. Likewise, while the list of retailers that support Apple Pay in-store and online is growing, not everyone takes it yet.

Finally, Apple Pay currently only works online with the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 3, and in-store with iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, or an Apple Watch combined with an iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6 Plus.

How to quickly link your iTunes credit or debit card to Apple Pay

apple_pay_notification_center_iphone_6_p

Apple makes it incredibly easy to get started with Apple Pay by letting you quickly link it to your existing iTunes credit or debit card. Your bank still has to support Apple Pay, of course but, if they do, you can setup both online and in-store mobile payments with just a few taps.

How to add additional credit or debit cards to Apple Pay

apple-pay-hero.JPG?itok=mrkA9-N1

Apple Pay lets you make in-store purchases with your iPhone, and online purchases with your iPhone or iPad, with just a touch of the Home button or the tapping out of a passcode. It makes it easy to start ditching your wallet for your device. All you have to do is add your credit or debit cards.

How to reorder Passbook and Apple Pay cards on iPhone

passbook_apple_pay_iphone_6_plus_hero.jp

If you use certain credit cards with Apple Pay more than others, which is typical for most of us, you may find that you'd rather have ones you use more often towards the front with others further back. This makes it easier to pull them out when and if you need them. You can also do the same for all your passes, loyalty cards, and gift cards via Passbook.

How to change your default credit or debit card for Apple Pay

apple_pay_iphone_6_ally_cards_hero.jpg?i

Apple Pay lets you use multiple credit and debit cards, so you can easily switch between them when you want to make a transaction. The default credit or debit card, however, is always the fastest and easiest to use. So, you'll want to make that card the default. Luckily, Apple Pay makes that fast and easy to do as well.

How to manage your billing and shipping information for Apple Pay

iphone_6_apple_store_app_checkout_hero.j

Part of what makes Apple Pay so fast and easy for online purchases is that it knows exactly where to bill your and where to send your purchases. That saves you the effort of having to type them out each and every time you buy something. But it also means you need to keep them accurate and up to date. That way, when you buy all the things, they'll know just where to send them.

How to view your recent transactions with Apple Pay

apple_pay_transactions_iphone_6_hero.jpg

Apple Pay doesn't just make it easy to purchase items in-store and online, but also to keep track of your purchases. You can view recent transactions in Passbook, and, depending on whether or not your credit card and bank support it, a longer transactional history in Settings. Here's how!

How to return an purchase in-store with Apple Pay

apple_pay_iphone_6_aadvantage_hero.jpg?i

Buying something in-store with Apple Pay is as easy as getting into NFC range and touching the Home button or tapping out the passcode. If you want to return your purchase — if you get the wrong size, the wrong brand, or simply change your mind — in most cases it's every bit as easy. And all you need is your iPhone.

How to remove a credit or debit card from Apple Pay

apple_pay_card_detail_view_iphone_6_hero

Apple makes it easy to add any and all of your supported credit and debit cards to Apple Pay. If, however, you lose, cancel, or change a card for any reason, you'll need to remove it. Luckily, Apple makes it just as easy to to that.

How to remotely remove your credit or debit cards from Apple Pay

apple_pay_card_closeup_iphone_6_hero.jpg

Apple Pay offers many security advantages, including single-use tokens and authentication via Touch ID fingerprint scan or pin code. However, if you lose your iPhone or iPad, you'll still want to remove any credit or debit cards that you've linked to it, just to be extra safe. Luckily, Apple and iCloud.com let you do just that secure and, best of all, remotely. Simply log in and wipe your cards away!

How to set up and add cards to Apple Pay on Apple Watch

apple-pay-watch-store-hero.jpg?itok=6u_S

To use Apple Pay on your Apple Watch you need to add the cards through the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. That's for security reasons. The process is simple, you just need to follow the steps.

How to set a default payment card for Apple Pay on Apple Watch

apple-pay-default-card-watch-hero.jpg?it

If you have multiple cards set up on your Apple Watch, and there's one credit or debit card you use more than any of the others, you can set it as default. That way it's the first card presented to you when you go to use Apple Pay.

How to make a purchase with Apple Pay on Apple Watch

apple-watch-barclay-apple-pay-hero.jpg?i

Using Apple Pay on your Apple Watch is fast and easy. All it takes is a couple presses of the side button and proximity to the payment terminal. Here's everything you need to know!

How to remove a payment card from Apple Pay on Apple Watch

Removing credit or debit cards from your Apple Watch is just as easy as adding them. So whether a card has expired, gone missing, or simply been replaced, you can ditch it in just a few steps.

Periscope picks up Handoff support and notification mutin...

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News

Periscope, the popular live streaming app from the folks at Twitter, has been updated to version 1.1.3, bringing the ability to mute notifications from specific users. Users will now find a toggle for turning notifications off next to the "Following" button by other users, allowing you to cut down on the notification distraction that much more.

Periscope has also picked up Handoff support in this latest update, making it much simpler to start watching a stream on your iPhone and switch to watching on your Mac, or vice versa. Here's the full list of changes in Periscope 1.1.3:

  • Mute Users: We've added a notification setting for people you follow. When you mute someone, their broadcasts still appear in your feed, but you won't receive push notifications when they go live.
  • Language Preferences: In your profile settings, you can now indicate your language preferences for Periscope. The languages you select will influence which broadcasts appear in your global list. By default, Periscope uses your device's preferred languages.
  • Broadcast stats: When viewing your past broadcasts, the viewer statistics are now always visible.
  • iOS 8 Handoff: You can start watching a broadcast on one device, and transition to watching it on another seamlessly. Simply ensure both are running iOS 8 or OS X, have Bluetooth turned on, and are logged in to the same iCloud account.

If you'd like to get in on the latest changes, Periscope 1.1.3 is now available for download in the App Store.

ebay-valet-iphone6-hero.jpg?itok=oE1VMlI

Online commerce giant eBay has announced that it will be discontinuing a number of its iPhone apps in the next few weeks. The company's Valet, Motors, and Fashion apps will all be discontinued. The core eBay apps for iPhone and iPad will gain some of the features of these apps.

From eBay:

  1. The eBay Valet app will be shutting down in the coming weeks, and sellers can still get the same great service at ebay.com/valet or use the selling tools within the core eBay apps.

  2. The eBay Fashion app will be decommissioned in the coming weeks;

  3. The eBay Motors app will be decommissioned later this year, and we aim to bring the rest of the best of the Motors app magic to the core eBay apps through this transition!

Additionally, eBay will also be shutting down its eBay Now delivery and pickup/drop off service in the U.S. The U.K. pilot of the program will continue as scheduled. The app for eBay Now was shut down last year, with several of its functions moved to the core eBay app.

You can download eBay's primary iPhone and iPad apps from the App Store now.

Chinese Police in Beijing have raided a factory that produced more than 40,000 fake iPhones, closing down a counterfeit operation worth as much as 120 million yuan ($19 million). A total of nine people have been arrested, including a married pair who led the operation. The factory was masked as a gadget repair shop, located just outside China's capital.

The group, who hired hundreds of workers to repackage second-hand smartphone components inside branded cases, began operations back in January, setting up the factory with a total of six assembly lines. Authorities in China were tipped by officials who seized fake mobile phones in US, though it's unknown just how many fake units have been shipped.

How to listen to Beats 1

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News

apple-music-hooked-on-beats1-feeling-her

Want to rock out with the DJs of Beats 1? Here are all the ways to do so.

One major component of Apple Music is the company's new 24/7 live radio station, Beats 1. Comprised of three keynote DJs, three local stations from major cities around the world, and special highlight programming, Beats 1 mixes tunes and tastes for an experience I can't really compare to other terrestrial radio. (Sirius FM comes close, but the stations still feel a little stale in comparison to Beats 1's shows.)

Beats 1 may not be for everyone, but the good news is you can tune in and out at will: Don't like a song? Switch back to your music library or a For You playlist with a simple Siri command. Here's how to load up Beats 1 on all your devices, as well as how to check showtimes and listen to past shows.

Tune in on iOS
  1. Open the Music app.
  2. Tap the Radio tab.

    apple-music-ios-listen-beats-1.jpg?itok=
  3. Tap the Listen Now button on the Beats 1 banner.

If you're driving or otherwise occupied, you can also ask Siri to tune you to Beats 1 by saying "Play Beats 1," "Turn on Beats 1", or "I want to hear Beats 1".

Tune in on your Mac
  1. Open iTunes.
  2. Select the Radio tab.

    apple-music-mac-listen-beats-1.jpg?itok=
  3. Click the Listen Now button on the Beats 1 banner.
Check showtimes

Not sure what DJs and shows are happening when? Check out our full Beats 1 schedule below:

Listen to past shows

Missed a special Beats 1 segment and want to catch up? Most of the DJs and hosts post playlists and selections from their shows on Connect. (You can't listen to whole show archives, because there are additional copyright/royalty issues inherent in making songs available in podcasts.) Here's how to find them.

View your play history

Listened to a song on Beats 1 you absolutely want to hear again? Check out your play history. Here's how to find it:

Any questions?

iPad mini 4 said to feature thinner frame, iPad Air 2 int...

It looks like the fourth iteration of the iPad mini could take after the iPad Air 2. Apple's new 7.9-inch tablet will reportedly debut this fall with much of the same hardware that was found in last fall's iPad Air 2, including a thinner frame and an improved rear-facing iSight camera.
The iPad mini 4 will reportedly debut alongside an A9-powered iPad Air 3 as well, according to Macotakara:

It is said that the shape of the iPad series will not be changed, but iPad Air 3 which uses A9 chip may be deployed, so there is a possibility that iPad Pro, iPad Air 3, and iPad mini 4 will be announced as the three new products.

When it debuted last year, the iPad mini 3 turned out to be essentially the same device as the iPad mini 2. The primary changes were the new gold color option, as well as support for Touch ID.
New iPads are expected to debut this fall, including a new, large-screen iPad Pro.
