Smug Californians now have proof they’re better than you. A couple of the most popular fitness apps in the App Store have pooled their data to figure out which U.S. states have the best (and worst) health habits. The HomeKit-compatible version of the Ecobee 3 smart thermostat, officially announced last month, goes on sale in U.S. Apple Stores today, reports The Verge. Apple has sold the original version since November of last year. The HomeKit-enabled model allows the thermostat to be controlled by Siri.

While Apple’s online store listing has not yet been updated to mention HomeKit-compatibility, it’s likely that the new version will ship from there too.

HomeKit was officially documented by Apple last month, the company confirming our report that the Apple TV would act as the gateway device. The support page has since been updated with a full list of Siri commands.

<p>Last week, we noted that Apple’s latest iOS 8.4 release with Apple Music <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2...s-8-4/">removessupport for the long-existing Music Home Sharing feature</a>. This function allows an iOS device user to stream music from a computer running iTunes on their own WiFi network. Today, Apple Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services <a href="https://twitter.com/cue/status/618194438444048384">noted on Twitter</a> that Apple is “working” to restore Home Sharing functionality in <a href="http://9to5mac.com/tag/ios-9/">iOS 9</a>. It is likely that Home Sharing was removed in iOS 8.4 due to changes necessary with the record labels to launch the new streaming music service. Cook previously revealed details on <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2015/06/30/eddy-cue-ios-9-beta-with-apple-music-coming-early-next-week-bitrate-better-on-wifi/">this week’s iOS 9 beta, streaming bit rates, and more</a> via Twitter.</p>

Apple's First Retail Store in Queens, New York Opens...

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News
Apple has announced that its first retail store in Queens, New York, located at the Queens Center shopping mall in the Elmhurst neighborhood, will have its grand opening on Saturday, July 11 at 10:00 AM local time. The new Apple Store at 90-15 Queens Boulevard will be open between 10:00 AM and 9:30 PM on Monday-Saturday and between 11:00 AM and 8:00 PM on Sunday.

Apple-Store-Queens-Center.jpg
Apple's first retail store in Queens will mark its eight location in New York City, with six existing locations in Manhattan and one in Staten Island. Apple is also planning to open its first retail store in Brooklyn, having signed a long-term lease for a 20,000 square-foot building at 247 Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg, although those plans are running behind schedule after the store missed its original April 2015 grand opening target.

Apple recently opened its new Upper East Side store in Manhattan at 940 Madison Avenue, on the corner of 74th Street, on the site of a former banking complex built in 1921 that previously housed luxury retailer VBH. The company also plans to renovate its iconic Fifth Avenue store and temporarily relocate to the vacating FAO Schwarz toy store in the same General Motors Building plaza.

Apple Working to Add Home Sharing for Music in iOS 9

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News
<img src="http://cdn.macrumors...omesharing.png"alt="homesharing" width="200" height="192" class="alignright size-full wp-image-456187" />With the release of iOS 8.4 and the new built-in Apple Music service, Apple <a href="http://www.macrumors.com/2015/07/01/ios-84-home-sharing/">removed Home Sharing for music</a> on iOS devices, a move that many Home Sharing users have been upset about. <br/> <br/> It was unclear if Home Sharing for music would be re-added in the future, but according to iTunes chief Eddy Cue, Apple is planning to add Home Sharing to iOS 9. In response to a tweet about the removal of Home Sharing for music, <a href="https://twitter.com/cue/status/618194438444048384">Cue tweeted</a> "We are working to have Home Sharing in iOS 9." <br/> <br/> Wording in the <a href="https://developer.apple.com/library/prerelease/ios/releasenotes/General/RN-iOSSDK-8.4/">release notes</a> for the last iOS 8.4 beta suggested that Home Sharing and Genius Mixes were "not currently available," hinting that the features could return at a later date, and it appears that is indeed Apple's plan. <br/> <br/> While Home Sharing for music has been removed in iOS 8.4, the feature is still <a href="https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202190">available for video</a>. Home Sharing for music also remains available on the Mac and the Apple TV. It is unclear when Home Sharing for music will be introduced in iOS 9, but the next beta is expected later this week. <br/> <br/> In recent weeks, Apple has been embracing social media, with Eddy Cue answering several questions about Apple Music and related services. Cue <a href="http://www.macrumors.com/2015/06/21/apple-will-pay-artists-free-trial/">also used Twitter</a> to announce Apple's plans to pay artists during the Apple Music free trial after an <a href="http://www.macrumors.com/2015/06/21/taylor-swift-apple-music/">open letter from Taylor Swift</a>, and he informed users about <a href="http://www.macrumors.com/2015/07/01/ios-9-beta-apple-music-cue/">an upcoming iOS 9 beta seed</a> that will add Apple Music to the new operating system.<br clear='all'/><br/><br/><a href="http://rc.feedsportal.com/r/233194323233/u/49/f/648326/c/35070/s/47e327a0/sc/28/rc/1/rc.htm" rel="nofollow"><img src="http://rc.feedsportal.com/r/233194323233/u/49/f/648326/c/35070/s/47e327a0/sc/28/rc/1/rc.img" border="0"/></a><br/><br/><a href="http://rc.feedsportal.com/r/233194323233/u/49/f/648326/c/35070/s/47e327a0/sc/28/rc/2/rc.htm" rel="nofollow"><img src="http://rc.feedsportal.com/r/233194323233/u/49/f/648326/c/35070/s/47e327a0/sc/28/rc/2/rc.img" border="0"/></a><br/><br/><a href="http://rc.feedsportal.com/r/233194323233/u/49/f/648326/c/35070/s/47e327a0/sc/28/rc/3/rc.htm" rel="nofollow"><img src="http://rc.feedsportal.com/r/233194323233/u/49/f/648326/c/35070/s/47e327a0/sc/28/rc/3/rc.img" border="0"/></a><br/><br/><a href="http://da.feedsportal.com/r/233194323233/u/49/f/648326/c/35070/s/47e327a0/sc/28/a2.htm"><img src="http://da.feedsportal.com/r/233194323233/u/49/f/648326/c/35070/s/47e327a0/sc/28/a2.img" border="0"/></a><br/><a href="http://adchoice.feedsportal.com/r/233194323233/u/49/f/648326/c/35070/s/47e327a0/sc/28/ach.htm"><img src="http://adchoice.feedsportal.com/r/233194323233/u/49/f/648326/c/35070/s/47e327a0/sc/28/ach.img" border="0"/></a><img width="1" height="1" src="http://pi.feedsportal.com/r/233194323233/u/49/f/648326/c/35070/s/47e327a0/sc/28/a2t.img" border="0"/><img width="1" height="1" src="http://pi2.feedsportal.com/r/233194323233/u/49/f/648326/c/35070/s/47e327a0/sc/28/a2t2.img" border="0"/><img width='1' height='1' src='http://rss.feedsportal.com/c/35070/f/648326/s/47e327a0/sc/28/mf.gif' border='0'/><div class="feedflare">

Tinder Apple Watch app uses heart-rate monitor to automat...

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News

If you use Tinder and all that swiping left or right is just too much effort, help is on the way. Digital agency T3 used the Apple Watch SDK to automatically detect which photos you find hot by measuring heart-rate changes.

If your heart-rate increases when looking at a photo, the app marks it as a match; if it decreases, it dismisses the photo.

We tend to agree with TNW that the company may want to come up with an alternative name before Hands-free Tinder makes its way to the App Store “soon” …

How to Customize Apple TV to Show Only the Channels You U...

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News
We've been waiting for the fourth-generation Apple TV for at least two years now, and we've been teased with vague comments, leaks from the supply chain, and analyst predictions for several years running. We thought we’d get a look at it this year at the Worldwide Developers Conference, but Apple was still not ready to show it off.

How-to-Customize-Apple-TV-4-800x600.jpg
Until we get a whole new model with, hopefully, a brand new look to the operating system, we have to stick with what we've got. The number of media channels is not getting any smaller, with Apple adding new content on a regular basis. For example, Apple recently added NatGeo TV. Content options are great, but sifting through dozens of channels can be a pain sometimes.

If you're tired of scrolling through the nearly seven dozen channels looking for the ones you use most, you can hide everything you don’t want to access, making it much easier to get to the content you want. We've got a quick tutorial to show you how.

Customizing Channels on the Main Menu
How-to-Customize-Apple-TV-2-800x516.jpg

  1. On Apple TV, go to your Settings app, which is always in the second row below your iTunes and shared computer channels.

  2. Select Main Menu from the list.

  3. Select "Hide" for every channel that you don't want showing by selecting the channel and clicking the center select button on the Apple TV remote. Channels that will be visible on the Apple TV are listed as "Show," while channels that will no longer show up are listed as "Hide."

How-to-Customize-Apple-TV-3-800x600.jpg
New channels will appear on the Main Menu whenever they are added to Apple TV. If you don't want to see them, follow the steps above for the new channel.

You can also go back and add channels to Main Menu whenever you like by clicking on it until it has "Show" next to it instead.

Troubleshooting
If your Apple TV is running slowly, shuts off randomly, or is otherwise working poorly, one way to fix it is to restart it.

  1. Unplug the connection to your television set.

  2. Unplug the power cable from the box.

  3. Plug the TV cable back in.

  4. Plug the power cable back in.

  5. Wait for Apple TV to finish reloading.

How-to-Customize-Apple-TV-6-800x600.jpg
There may be deeper issues with your set-top box that a simple restart can't fix. If so, you may need to reset it to factory settings.

  1. On Apple TV, go to the Settings app.

  2. Select General.

  3. Scroll down to select Reset.

  4. Select Restore.

This will restore Apple TV to its factory settings, removing all passwords you have entered for all of your channels. The restoration will take a while. Don't unplug your Apple TV during the process.

If you can't restore Apple TV to its factory settings from the Main Menu (like, if your box is frozen and just stops working altogether), you can perform the process via iTunes by connecting your Apple TV to your computer.

You will need a micro-USB cable and the latest version of iTunes running on your Internet-connected computer for this process.

  1. Disconnect the power and television cables from Apple TV.

  2. Open iTunes on your computer. Then connect Apple TV to your computer using the micro-USB cable. If you have the third-generation Apple TV, you will also need to plug the box into a power source.

  3. Once connected, Go to the Apple TV summary page in iTunes and select "Restore Apple TV."

  4. When the restoration process is finished, disconnect Apple TV from your computer and reconnect it to your television set.

Hopefully, we wont be waiting around for too much longer before Apple finally presents us with the next big thing for television. But, until then, at least we can organize our channels the way we want to.

<p>According to a notice that Apple has sent to retail store employees, new packaging will start to appear on store shelves for accessories from <a href="http://www.amazon.co...IG">Tech21</a>,<a href="http://www.amazon.com/mn/search/ref=as_li_ss_tl?_encoding=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;field-keywords=tech21&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;tag=9to5maccom-20&amp;url=search-alias%3Daps&amp;linkId=PHGHTSMIFLO5CXJ7">Sena</a>, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=as_li_ss_tl?_encoding=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;field-keywords=incase&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Aincase&amp;tag=9to5maccom-20&amp;url=search-alias%3Daps&amp;linkId=R3X7SJPTEW5H6I6E">Incase</a>, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=as_li_ss_tl?_encoding=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;field-keywords=mophie&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amophie&amp;tag=9to5maccom-20&amp;url=search-alias%3Daps&amp;linkId=WDKD6REQO5ECTWTO">Mophie</a>, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=as_li_ss_tl?_encoding=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;field-keywords=logitech%20iPad%20keyboard&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Alogitech%20iPad%20keyboard&amp;tag=9to5maccom-20&amp;url=search-alias%3Daps&amp;linkId=KU2VNLGOSSDIIICL">Logitech</a>, and <a href="http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=as_li_ss_tl?_encoding=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;field-keywords=life%20proof%20iphone&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Alife%20proof%20iphone&amp;tag=9to5maccom-20&amp;url=search-alias%3Daps&amp;linkId=EKMI22QYS2BPCCUC">Life Proof</a>. According to the memo, the packaging will be mostly white to match the Mac, iPhone, and Apple Watch boxes, while they will also include simpler fonts, new photography, higher-quality materials, and more consistent compatibility labeling. This shift is yet another in a string for third-parties that has <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2014/12/11/apple-mfi-case-standards/">included new environmental guidelines</a> and a ban on leveraging <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2015/02/10/apple-threatens-to-ban-iphone-ipad-accessory-makers-that-design-based-on-leaks/">early iPhone leaks</a>.</p>

<p>Over time, Apple will work with more accessory makers to support the new packaging style as it reduces inventory of items that do not fit the new look. A <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2...s-july/">reportfrom June indicated</a> that Apple would revamp its accessory selection with new boxes as soon as July, while Apple’s new Upper East Side store in New York has <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2015/06/13/apple-ues-store-opening/">provided a small preview</a> of Apple’s new limited accessory selection. Apple has begun rolling out the new boxes in other large stores such as the Fifth Avenue location in New York. In his new role as Chief Design Officer, Jony Ive <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2015/07/01/jony-ive-deisgn-officer/">oversees Apple’s packaging</a>, so perhaps he has played a role in this shift.</p><br />Filed under: <a href='http://9to5mac.com/category/aapl-company/'>AAPL Company</a> Tagged: <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/angela-ahrendts/'>Angela Ahrendts</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/apple-inc/'>Apple Inc</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/apple-store/'>Apple Store</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/bank-vault/'>Bank vault</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/iphone/'>iPhone</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/madison-avenue/'>Madison Avenue</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/new-york-city/'>New York City</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/retail-and-wholesalers/'>Retail and Wholesalers</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/upper-east-side/'>Upper East Side</a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gocomments/9to5mac.wordpress.com/387757/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/comments/9to5mac.wordpress.com/387757/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/godelicious/9to5mac.wordpress.com/387757/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/delicious/9to5mac.wordpress.com/387757/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gofacebook/9to5mac.wordpress.com/387757/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/facebook/9to5mac.wordpress.com/387757/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gotwitter/9to5mac.wordpress.com/387757/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/twitter/9to5mac.wordpress.com/387757/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gostumble/9to5mac.wordpress.com/387757/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/stumble/9to5mac.wordpress.com/387757/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/godigg/9to5mac.wordpress.com/387757/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/digg/9to5mac.wordpress.com/387757/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/goreddit/9to5mac.wordpress.com/387757/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/reddit/9to5mac.wordpress.com/387757/" /></a> <img alt="" border="0" src="http://pixel.wp.com/b.gif?host=9to5mac.com&blog=22754319&post=387757&subd=9to5mac&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" /><p>For more information about <a href="http://9to5mac.com/category/aapl-company/">AAPL Company</a>, <a href="http://9to5mac.com/tag/iphone/">iPhone</a>, and <a href="http://9to5mac.com/tag/apple-store/">Apple Store</a> continue reading at <a href="http://9to5mac.com">9to5Mac</a>.</p><p>What do you think? <strong><a href="http://9to5mac.com/2015/07/06/apple-stores-white-boxes-accessories/#comments">Discuss "All Apple Stores revamping third-party accessory selection with Apple designed&nbsp;boxes" with our community.</a></strong></p>
