Supergirl is latest rare super heroine to snag TV series

CBS just landed Supergirl, the network’s first series pick up for the upcoming season. This is, of course, rather historic, since the last decent female-led superhero show was 1975’s Wonder Woman, starring Lynda Carter. It’s even got a chance ofmf.gif

Tim Cook charity auction raises $200,000 for RFK hum...

What can $200,000 get you in 2015? Lunch with the CEO of the most valuable company in the world and two tickets to be his VIP guest at a future Apple keynote. That’s how much Tim Cook and Charitybuzz raised at auction today as the weeks-long fundraiser came to a close after the starting bid began at $10,000 — the starting price of the 18k gold Apple Watch Edition — in mid-April…

img.php?z=1288305&k=0d0633b70e3c2bda246a

Just as he has chosen in previous years, Cook’s proceeds will help fund the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights campaign.

This year marks the third annual auction for meeting Tim Cook and raising funds for the RFK human rights group. The effort saw its biggest success during the first year when Charitybuzz reported a massive $610,000 winning bid. Last year the executive included VIP tickets to be a guest at an Apple event like this year while raising $330,001 in the process.

Cook isn’t alone in participating in charity auctions through the fundraising site. Apple’s Eddy Cue and Ian Rogers have both offered similar meet-ups to raise funds for various charities through Charitybuzz, although Cook’s participation has become an annual affair.

Earlier today as the 20th bid ranked in at $200,000 on closing day, the fundraising site shared an entertaining infographic that puts that amount of money in perspective in Apple terminology.

Here was the winning auction just before it wrapped up:

Elon Musk hopes Apple will enter car market, says Tesla p...

Apple’s car team

Speculation regarding Apple’s plans to build an electric car has been at an all-time over recent months. Earlier this year, we broke down the team that Apple has assembled to work on its car, several members of which were poached from Tesla. In Tesla’s Q1 2015 earnings call, however, CEO Elon Musk commented on Apple’s alleged electric car plans and the poaching war that has been ongoing between the two companies.

img.php?z=1288305&k=0d0633b70e3c2bda246a

Regarding Apple’s plans to build an electric car, Musk said that he “hopes” Apple will enter the car market and that it will be “great” if it does. Musk made similar comments earlier this year when addressing the reports that Apple had approached Tesla about a potential acquisition. Musk, of course, would not comment about specific talks between the two companies.

Musk also today addressed the ongoing poaching war between Tesla and Apple by essentially saying that there isn’t a war, but if there was, Tesla would be winning it. Musk noted that Tesla has not seen any “significant attrition” of engineers to Apple. Tesla, on the other hand, has recruited “five times as many people” from Apple as Apple has from Tesla.

“I certainly hope Apple gets into the car business. That would be great. But we’re not seeing any significant attrition of engineers to Apple, for anything. Cars or otherwise. Anyone can find this out by going on LinkedIn. If you look at the trailing 12 months, Tesla has recruited something like five times as many people from Apple as Apple has from Tesla.”

A report earlier this year claimed that Apple is planning to launch its own car by 2020. Whether or not that turns out to be true remains to be seen, but nevertheless, Apple now has support from one of the brightest minds in the world for its car initiative.

Updated: Apple has uploaded its new “Change Everything” ad to YouTube, as well. It’s embedded below.

Apple has debuted its newest iPad marketing campaign, “Change Everything,” with a 1:30 commercial and a new website highlighting the apps that change the way people go about their daily lives. The ad starts off with a list of things that have changed since the release of the first iPad, such as small businesses and education.

From there the commercial demonstrates a variety of applications and accessories that have augmented the way people connect, learn, and conduct business, and enjoy their lives…

img.php?z=1288305&k=0d0633b70e3c2bda246a

Individual pages provide a closer look at the software and hardware featured in the ad, with each focusing on a specific area, such as cooking, education, and even redecorating. Each page highlights a collection of apps that can help users accomplish tasks in those areas, like Green Kitchen and Yummly for cooking, or the Square credit card reader and QuickBooks for small businesses.

The education page presents options for students ranging from kids to college students, while the redecorating page shows off apps that help you reimagine your home, like Vango Art and ColorSnap Studio. Useful hardware like the Ecobee3 smart thermostat (not the Nest, for obvious reasons) and how-to apps ike Instructables and wikiHow are also highlighted.

You can view the full collection and the new ad on Apple’s website or via YouTube below:
