Every smartphone maker promises us great photos from its latest devices, but few Android handsets are actually capable of taking them consistently. That’s not the case with the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, which are just as impressive as Samsung said theymf.gif

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Enables Access to HealthKit f...

healthkit-logo.pngCedars-Sinai Medical Center, one of the largest hospitals in Los Angeles, has updated its online medical records to enable access to HealthKit for more than 80,000 patients, reports Bloomberg. Cedars-Sinai joins The Mayo Clinic and Duke University Hospital as medical centers connected to the health platform, alongside more than 900 health, medical and fitness apps integrated with the service.
“This is just another set of data that we’re confident our physicians will take into account as they make clinical and medical judgments,” said Cedars-Sinai chief information officer Cedars-Sinai. “We don’t really, fully know and understand how patients will want to use this and we’re going to basically stand ready to learn by what will happen.”
Apple said earlier this year that over 600 developers are integrating HealthKit into their health and fitness apps, and more than fourteen major hospitals are now using the health framework in the United States. Apple introduced HealthKit and a new Health app in iOS 8 as a part of a new initiative into health and fitness tracking. HealthKit taps into data from the iPhone's various sensors along with compatible accessories to provide a more comprehensive picture of a user's health.mf.gif

Apple offers solutions as users report Apple Watch chargi...

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News

applewatchbattery.jpg?w=704&h=375

A small number of early Apple Watch users are reporting problems charging the device, as well as excessive drain of the paired iPhone’s battery, according to posts on Apple’s discussion forums and Twitter. According to training documents received by 9to5Mac, Apple is already aware of the issues, and offering solutions that may help affected users.

Users with charging problems have explained that the Apple Watch will physically connect to its charger and say that it’s charging properly, “but in reality the power diminishes as if no charger was plugged in.” In some cases, the issue appears to be in software, where one of two several-step tricks may enable the Watch to recharge:

  1. Turn off and reset the Watch, first holding the side button, swiping to power off, then holding the Digital Crown and side button at the same time until the Apple logo appears. This alone may solve the problem.
  2. If that doesn’t work, restart the connected iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, then Erase All Content and Settings using General > Reset. Set up the Watch again and see if charging works.

Some users have noted that their issues appear to be hardware defects, which are being resolved by AppleCare using either replacement Watches or charging cables. However, one user noted that what appeared to be a hardware problem may have been caused by not removing protective plastic on the Watch’s rear charging surface, and was resolved by restarting the Watch. These types of problems, as well as “super quick” iPhone battery drain issues are in the process of being addressed by Apple, as explained below…

Noticed my iPhone's battery was abnormally low, especially for barely having used it today. So now we know why. http://t.co/9sJuPrpH0Q

Ryan Block (@ryan) April 26, 2015

A separate collection of complaints regarding excessive drain of the paired iPhone’s battery appear to be related to a bug in iOS. Over the weekend, a number of Apple discussion forum users reported “super quick battery drain” using both iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 models, an issue also noted by journalists including Ryan Block and Jacqui Cheng. Block shared a screenshot of the Apple Watch companion app consuming 31% of his iPhone’s battery power over one day, while Cheng noted that her iPhone’s battery was “100% dead more than a half day earlier than usual.” The same two solutions mentioned above have been suggested as fixes for these issues.

Apple Watch battery life: 16-20 hrs. iPhone paired with Apple Watch: seemingly zero hours

Jacqui Cheng (@ejacqui) April 26, 2015

To deal with “Battery Life Too Short” complaints, Apple has prepared a series of troubleshooting steps for its AppleCare customer service representatives. They include the restarting and iPhone/Watch Bluetooth re-pairing steps above, plus testing using a “known-good Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable” and a “known-good USB Power Adapter connected to AC power for five minutes.”

Before replacing a Watch, representatives are instructed to check for moisture condensation inside the back sensor window, examine the Watch for signs of external physical damage, and look for apps showing “unusually high battery usage” as possible explanations for the issue. If there’s no easy way to remedy the situation on the spot, representatives can set up the Watch to be mailed in for repair or replacement.

Christy Turlington Burns Breaks Personal Record at London...

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News
Over the past few weeks since Apple's "Spring Forward" event, model and founder of non-profit organization Every Mother Counts Christy Turlington Burns has kept a blog on Apple's official website describing her use of the Apple Watch in helping her prepare for the Virgin Money 2015 London Marathon.

It's about that time...Wish me luck and some speed #everymileeverymother @everymomcounts sub 4hrs #applewatch

A photo posted by Christy Turlington Burns (@cturlington) on Apr 26, 2015 at 1:44am PDT

After finishing the marathon yesterday, Burns posted a time of 3 hours and 46 minutes, flying just under her goal time of 3 hours and 55 minutes (via The Telegraph).

Angled as a seven week build-up to the 2015 London Marathon, Burns' final blog entry was posted last week, also timing itself with the official launch of the Apple Watch last Friday. As Burns mentioned in her latest post for Apple, "as a 46‑year‑old mom, I’m proud of my under‑4‑hour goal", even though most "extreme" athletes can get a finish time under the 3 hour mark.

Burns used a variety of Apple Watch features over the nearly-two-months she trained for the marathon, from praising the dexterity of the Watch in learning personal stride and workout preferences to the subtle encouragement of filling every activity ring each day.

Although her role in the launch of the Apple Watch can be seen as purely promotional, she did shed some light on unknown features concerning lesser-discussed portions of the Watch's abilities, including the fact that after a few runs paired with an iPhone, the Watch can work independently of the iPhone over time.mf.gif

Yes, the Apple Watch Blends [iOS Blog]

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News
Blendtec and Tom Dickson have returned with the latest edition of their "Will It Blend" experiment, this time putting the Apple Watch in a blender to see how well it survives. Spoiler alert: it doesn't. Just like with every iPhone put through the blender treatment, the Apple Watch is quickly smashed and destroyed into tiny bits and pieces of metal.

Screen-Shot-2015-04-27-at-10.42.47-AM-80
Last week, the Apple Watch Sport was put through a lengthier torture test that involved attempting to scratch it with a cheese grater, pouring ketchup and maple syrup on it, boiling it in hot water, stepping on it, smashing it with a seven-pound cast iron skillet and more. The wrist-worn device also underwent a waterproof test on the same day.

Don't try this at home.mf.gif

AAPL’s numbers today are going to be huge, analysts predi...

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News

aapl-q2-2015.png?w=704&h=234

With Apple set to reveal its fiscal Q2 earnings after market close today, analysts are expecting double-digit year-over-year growth in all categories except iPads. Fortune‘s roundup says that analysts predict revenue of $56.84B, up a massive 24.5% year-over-year, and above the top end of Apple’s $52-55M guidance. Earnings per share is predicted to be $2.21, up a third on the previous year, with gross margin just shy of Apple’s top-end guidance at 39.4%.

Double-digit growth is expected in both iPhones and Macs. For iPhones, the prediction includes sales just under 56M, 32.6% higher than the same quarter last year, while Mac sales are forecasted to hit 4.7M, 13.6% up on last year …

img.php?z=1288305&k=0d0633b70e3c2bda246a

iPad sales are the only blot on the copybook, with the fall in sales expected to continue, down from 16.35M in Q2 last year to 13.92M this year, a drop of 14.9%.

Of course, while the market will be eagerly awaiting the actual Q2 numbers, it’s likely that the most eagerly awaited number of all is for a rather shorter period: Apple Watch pre-orders. It’s not certain that Apple will reveal these – the company has previously indicated that Watch sales will fall under an ‘Other’ category in its actual accounts, in there with iPods, Apple TVs and so on – but given the apparent success of the launch, we’re hoping that Apple will choose to at least share opening weekend pre-orders. The ‘Other’ category results that include Watch sales won’t be due out for another quarter as sales only started this month.

You can see the full Fortune analyst roundup below. We’ll of course be bringing you the actual numbers and all the news from today’s earnings call as they are announced at 2pm PT/5pm ET.
