Here are all the iPhones and iPads compatible with iOS 9...

ios-9-content-blocking-extensions-hero.j

We've done a deep dive into iOS 9 content blocker extensions but if all you're really interested in is whether or not they'll work on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, here's the complete list!

  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPhone 5s
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad Air
  • iPad mini 2
  • iPad mini 3
  • iPod touch 6

Of course, any new products Apple releases this fall, including iPhone 6s and a theoretical iPad Pro, will certainly work with content blocking extensions as well.

If you noticed all of the models listed have something in common—they're all using 64-bit Apple A7 or later processors—there's a reason for it: speed. Apple wants content blocking extensions to execute as fast as possible so web performance is as good as possible. So, while older processors could handle it, only 64-bit processors will handle it fast enough for Apple.

(Long time iPhone owners may remember when video recording was iPhone 3GS or later, because 15fps on an iPhone 3G just wasn't good enough.)

Beats Electronics' president talks working with Apple...

beats-mixr-iphone6-hero.jpg?itok=Mk8lnPz

Luke Wood, president of Beats' hardware division, recently sat down at the Beats Symposium in Sydney, Australia to talk about working at Apple, the impact of Beats as a cultural force, and how the company keeps improving its products. Wood mentioned that the integration of Apple and Beats is going well a little more than a year in, saying that he was pleasantly surprised by the high level of integrity at the company.

Wood also talked about how the acquisition was a natural fit, given that both companies focus on building premium product experiences. From Mashable:

We've always been consistent at Beats with focusing on premium audio. We're looking at our little audio slice of the world and trying to focus on creating a stellar product experience. I think that's also the fundamental DNA of everything Steve wanted to accomplish at Apple. By product experience, that includes ID, design, technology, innovation, simplicity. Those are always things that have been fundamental to our DNA, too.

As to some of the pushback that Beats receives over the quality of its products, Wood only says that while he's proud of the products the company has created, he's even happier with its current lineup.

Ever feel like you need a touch of nature to counteract all of that cutting edge technology?

We've been poking around wooden cases for the iPad Air 2, and these are the best we've come up with. You'll find a healthy selection of full cases with a wooden frame to slim and light smart covers. Types of wood used can include mahogany, bamboo, walnut, oak, and plenty of others. Obviously we're showing preference to cases that are made with sustainably-sourced wood. In many instances, these beautiful cases will be available for the original iPad Air and iPad mini as well, so be sure to take a look no matter which model you have.

DodoCase

The DodoCase is a particularly personal kind of product thanks to a design lineage with traditional bookbinding. The interior and exterior cover are highly customizable, with a variety of colors available, including user-submitted imagery. The bamboo frame on the inside keeps your iPad secure and offers continued access to the Lightning port, volume keys, and headphone jack.

Toast Button Cover

Toast makes slim, laser-cut wood covers for iPad. They attach by a residue-free adhesive, and wrap around the edges of your iPad Air 2. The package even includes button covers to keep the look and feel consistent. Walnut, ash, bamboo, and ebony options are available, and additional extras such as custom etching, front panel, and smart cover can be tacked on from their site. Dig into Windows Central's review of the Surface Pro 3 Toast cover to get an idea of what to expect.

Pad & Quill Contega Case

Pad & Quill also has a book-style case for the iPad Air 2. Brown or black bonded leather is available for the exterior, and a handful of colors for the inside cloth. A Baltic birch frame inside keeps you iPad safe, and a classy bookmark helps you pop it out. If you want to go all-out, you can upgrade for $40 to the Aria, which features a stitched, full-grain leather front cover, or save a few bucks with a linen cover instead.

Miniot Cover

minot-ipadair-case2.jpg?itok=ulIldGkO

Miniot offers a family of particularly attractive smart covers that attach to your iPad's built-in magnets. The cover is segmented, allowing users to roll it up behind their iPad as a stand. Every cover is made in Holland with locally-sourced cherrywood, walnut, mahogany, oak, and wenge. An interior microfiber keeps your iPad screen unscuffed, and there's an optional engraving available if you want to get really personal.

Grovemade Sleeve

Grovemade's wool sleeve for iPad sports an imaginative geomatric pattern on a slim wood veneer to afford it flexibility. Models in maple and walnut are available, and both have a leather draw strap to easily pull out an otherwise snug and secure iPad. Other options are also available for the iPad mini or your Macbook.

That's our tour of the wonderful world of wooden cases for the iPad Air 2. Drop a link in the comments with your favorite all-natural covering!

Memphis will be one of the first US cities to get a '...

apple-watch-retail-palo-alto.jpg?itok=I-

The Apple Store in the Memphis, Tennessee area is moving to a new location, but more importantly it will also be one of the first company stores in the US to get a new 'next-generation' design. The current store, located at 7615 W. Farmington Blvd., in the Shops of Saddle Creek North, will be shut down while the new store will be close by at 2031 West St., within the Shops of Saddle Creek South.

The Memphis Daily News reports that Germantown Design Review Commission recently approved the plans for the new store, which will include a three-panel glass front. Apple's representative, Rick Millitello, gave the Commission some details more about the design:

Other aspects of the design, according to Millitello, include a matte granite reinforced panel on the exterior as well as natural oak tables inside. The store will also feature a changeable display that will include living plants at times, TV displays that change and artwork, among other things.

There's no word on when the new Memphis store will open, but the new next-generation Apple Store design will begin appearing in some locations overseas later this fall.

Amazon has updated its Amazon Video app, adding a major new feature that gives Prime an edge over competing video services like Netflix: offline playback. Amazon Prime customers can now download and store movies and TV shows available on through the streaming service, and play them back while away from an internet connection. This is perfect for the traveler who wants to keep up with their favorite shows, but doesn't always have a reliable data connection.

Downloads are currently available to Prime members in the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Austria. To find videos that you have downloaded, tap the Library tab at the bottom of the app, then select Refine in the top right of the screen. Select the On Device option, and you'll be given a list of downloaded movies and TV shows. You'll find all of your downloaded titles there. To delete a downloaded show or movie, simply tap Delete Download.

You can download Amazon Video from the App Store right now.

Nest's third-gen thermostat introduces a sleeker look...

Posted By x-bot in iDevice News

Alphabet has launched the third-generation of the Nest smart thermostat. Looking at provided media, the new appliance will not only continue to save households money on their bills but this latest version of the Nest Thermostat is thinner and better looking overall. There's also a handy new feature to go with the larger display, called Farsight.

Farsight detects when you walk into the room, wakes up the display and reveals either the set temperature or time. Nest has also added even more temperature sensors to ensure the thermostat is accurate. This makes the learning that much more effective with the device detecting how the house heats up and cools down, as well as whether or not it's a draughty environment.

The new Nest Thermostat will even monitor your furnace and display a message should it detect an issue with your heating setup. This feature will be hitting first and second-generation Nest installations later this year, but for now it's a new-gen exclusive. As always, the company will continue rolling out software updates, further enhancing the thermostat's ability to keep you feeling comfortable in your own home.

PayPal launches new payment service that makes it super e...

paypal-me-ios.jpg?itok=NCGxa9gJ

PayPal has launched a new payment service called PayPal.Me to compete against the likes of Square. This new platform enables you to create a personal URL that others can use to quickly, and conveniently transfer you funds. All that's required is a PayPal account and a working, compatible smartphone with internet access.

Your link can be shared on social media for others to use. Simply hit the link, enter the amount you wish to send that person and hit send. PayPal will then wire the funds directly from your account to the one specified by hitting the connected URL. The best part is you can even personalize your link, I could have PayPal.Me/RichIsTheBest or something similar.

It's a neat service that works with both Android and iPhone, as well as desktop and various tablets. PayPal.Me is available in Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the UK and US.
